All The Mythical Beasts in the world, the most famous, most hunted for, and most talked about must be 'Nessie' the Loch Ness Monster. 5. Nessie is a Scottish name meaning 'pure'. 6. She was first spotted in 565 AD by St Columba as he took a swim in Loch Ness, who rescued a swimmer from the beast's advances. 7. The Loch Ness Monster became famous after the April 1933 sighting. 8. A local couple spotted an enormous animal rolling and playing in the water. 9. The story of Nessie first appeared in the paper 2nd May 1933. 10. They reported it as having a six-feet-long neck, a serpentine head and a huge hump. 11. In 1933, the Daily Mail reported that Madmaduke Wetherall found footprints on the shore of the loch after they sent him to look for Nessie. 12. The British Museum of Natural History later discovered the prints had been made with a stuffed hippopotamus foot. 13. In 1934 a London doctor released a most mysterious photograph of the monster to the public. It showed a strange head and neck appearing from the water. 14. 60 years later it was revealed to be a fake. 15. In March 2000, a team of Norwegian scientists, the Global Underwater Search Team, picked up bizarre noises in the loch's water. 16. A recording of a dark object heading towards Fort Augustus in 1960 is "classed as the greatest piece of evidence for the Loch Ness monster". 17. Loch Ness investigations have included lures, fish baits, exploding light bulbs, submarines, scanning sonars, echo sounders, telephoto cameras, underwater cameras with strobe flashes, movie cameras, video and, now, digital cameras too. 18. Dr Rines, who helped find the Titanic, spent 37 years trying to find Nessie before he died in 2009. 19.The last sighting of Nessie was on November 2, 2011. 20. There are tons of people who make money off the Loch Ness Monster.
