The big question that lingers around in software land for while is: Why did SAP pay $8B to acquire Qualtrics? If you missed this news, in November last year, SAP acquired Qualtrics. It followed previous strategic acquisitions, like SuccessFactors, Hybris, Ariba and Concur. All investments to strengthen SAP’s leading position in the enterprise cloud market. Qualtrics was one of the largest acquisitions in SAP history. In the 6 weeks following the acquisition SAP share price went down 14% from $110 per share to $95, clearly indicating that investors didn’t know what to make of the acquisition. Today SAP trends again around that $110 mark. It took the world almost 4 months to figure out how the latest addition to the SAP family is creating a lot of value. In this video I explain my rational.
