@K-New Leaders Online III: A Conversation with Alvin Chang, Reporter at The Wall Street Journal
Join our third iteration of K-New Leaders Online with Alvin Chang, reporter at The Wall Street Journal, and data visualization lecturer at The New School in New York. For this program, Alvin will talk about the difference between traditional journalism and data journalism as well as how the changing field of journalism impacts readers and viewers. This talk will also explore a new format called “cartoonsplainer” which Alvin created when he was with Vox, an American news and opinion website as well as his experiences and perspectives on career development in the field of graphic and interactive journalism. ------ About the Speaker: Alvin Chang is a graphics reporter at Noted, a news and culture magazine from The Wall Street Journal. Alvin enjoys covering how small decisions accrue into invisible problems that lead to segregation, discrimination, and ultimately dehumanization. And he makes those things visible using data visualization, interactives, cartoons, and videos. Previously, Alvin worked at Vox, ESPN, and the Boston Globe. Alvin’s works were featured in the Best American Infographics, the Education Writers Association, Society of News Design, and the Online News Association.
