Korean Husband Hong Kong Wife's video: Silk Road Choyhona FINALLY found UZBEK Cuisine - Gaithersburg MD

@[Silk Road Choyhona] FINALLY found UZBEK Cuisine!! - Gaithersburg, MD
[Taste the World Cuisine in U.S.A.] - Uzbekistan Episode Overall, a very cozy and incredibly delicious first-time Uzbek food experience! We have to highlight the lounge seating area that was filled with colorful cushions and it was so much fun dining without shoes on there! [Kompot] Kompot is a common Central Asian berry beverage served hot or cold. It's made from a hot pot of water boiled with a variety of berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, etc.) and mixed with sugar and honey. Then, they would refrigerate it to serve cold in the summer. We got two glasses of cold Kompot. It was amazing! We loved the mixture of berries and the sweetness was just right! That was a great start to our meal. [Eggplant Salad] We got the traditional Uzbek eggplant salad as our appetizer. It was basically grilled eggplants sliced in long oval shapes, then folded in half with thin slices of tomatoes and yogurt sauce stuffed inside the folded eggplant. It also came with sautéed sweet bell peppers and chopped eggplants (sort of on the side). This dish is served cold. This was really appetizing since the yogurt sauce was a bit sour while the eggplant and bell peppers were sweet! We loved how cold eggplant is chewy, gave it a quite interesting texture! [Shurpa] Our server recommended us the Uzbek Shurpa soup. It's a lamb and mixed vegetable soup. The veggies include potatoes, carrots, celeries, chickpeas, and bell peppers. This is a traditional dish that Uzbekistans have at home as well. The first sip was kind of interesting because we did not expect the strong cumin and lamb flavors that dominated the whole bowl of soup. Having said that, we are lamb lovers, so as we kept on sipping our soup, we just finished the entire bowl in less than 2 minutes. This soup is incredible if you love lamb meat! [Steamed Manti] Mantis are Central Asian dumplings. If you're familiar with Chinese dumplings, Manti is similar, except it's served with yogurt sauce instead of soy sauce! We got the steamed beef manti. There are potato and pumpkin options and fried versions as well. The skin of our mantis was a bit thick, and the beef was on the chewy side, but both were perfectly seasoned. We believe there was cumin seasoning in the beef. The mantis went very well with the yogurt sauce. Cumin is probably a common seasoning used in many Uzbek dishes. Yum yum yum! [Chicken Shish Kebab] We ordered the "appetizer" size chicken kebab, so it was just one skewer. Had to point out that the sword-like metal bar that was used to grill the kebab was served on our plate as well! We think that made it taste and look better! The chicken was tender and again we think it was seasoned with pepper and cumin. Very well grilled and quite awesome with the tomato sauce that came on the side. [Plov] Plov is Uzbekistan's signature dish. This is a MUST-TRY! We loved both the look and the taste of it! Plov is lamb simmered with carrots, basmati rice, raisins, chickpeas, garlic, and of course cumin! You just have to love the entire unpeeled garlic that sits right in the middle of this rice dish. This really was the uniqueness of this dish. The lamb was fork-tender, and the carrots just melted as I spooned them into my mouth. While trying to figure out if or how we should peel the garlic cloves, I did a little squeeze to it and one clove of garlic just feel off the skin onto my rice. I mixed it in with the rice and lamb, and oh my gosh the garlic was melting-soft and went PERFECTLY with the lamb and rice! Highly-recommended! Double thumbs-ups! This was such a fun Uzbek food experience. Friendly servers, relaxing seating area, and a variety of flavorful dishes, what's a better weekend than that?! Don't be afraid to try something new in the United States. Yes, there are many foreign cuisines in the States that are "Americanized," but there are also many authentic and genuine places out there! [Parking] Plenty of parking lot spaces available in front of the restaurant. It's a parking lot shared with Giant grocery store, liquor store, nail shop, and several other stores next to the restaurant. [Area] This restaurant could be a bit hard to find as it's located in a mall together with a Giant. You will see a sign for Giant before turning into the mall, but not for this restaurant. Top of the restaurant has a big sign that says "Choyhona." The other pictures shared on Yelp has their old signs, the current sign does not say "Authentic Uzbek Restaurant."
