The Power of Shoes is a Texas-based non-profit 501 c 3 charity that focuses on making a measurable difference in the fight to end abuse and in the lives of those it touches. Through our various networking and social events,Society of Women Who LOVE Shoes and My Storybook Shoes, we raise awareness and promote change for these victims, survivors and their families. The Power of Shoes began modestly as Society of Women Who LOVE Shoes, and was founded in 2005 by long-term survivor of abuse, Dianne Samoff, the CEO of the organization. After suffering years of domestic violence during her first marriage, Dianne finally escaped the cycle of abuse and has created an organization that brings hope and a renewed sense of self-esteem to victims of abuse. She has helped to raise awareness and become a champion for ending the tolerance of abuse. Collecting and donating new and gently used shoes and clothing to help victims of abuse is only a small part of what this organization does, but shoes help us all to remember that taking a step is how changes happens. After escaping an abusive situation and trying to get a job, she was given a suit and a pair of red heels to wear to an interview. Both gave her a sense of pride and hope knowing that she was moving forward into a new future. Dianne felt the need to give this same source of hope to others who are or have been victims of abuse or experienced domestic violence. The Power of Shoes currently has chapters of Society of Women Who LOVE Shoes in Texas and is beginning its expansion nationally and has expanded to include a more specific focus on children of abuse through My Storybook Shoes.
