The history is ancient. It was transmitted from China to Japan by Japanese official diplomatic delegations during Japanese empress Suiko's period sent to the Sui dynasty in China. At that time, the style was different from the current one, but its culture transmitted at that time was to enjoy watching stones placed in a setting. The black oval lacquered tray is called a "wig tray (Katsura Bon)." This name originated from the nobles of the Heian period in Japan who had very long hair and put in on a tray when they sleep to avoid messy hair. There is another stone called a pillow stone (Makura Ishi). They put a stone beside a pillow in the dark at night as a protector against evil because they had little lights at night. Ancient nobles enjoyed displays of the combination of a tray and stones. In the Kamakura period starting in 1192 util the Muromachi period in 1467, landscape painting became popular, and they enjoyed a miniature dry landscape garden by placing stones as a mountain or fall and sands as waves or a river on a tray. There are many beautiful gardens in Japan. This was also used as a simulation on a plate before actually constructing Japanese gardens. To organize sands on a tray, a lot of delicate tools have developed in Japan. From the Taisho to Showa periods, this was popular as one of domestic training for brides-to-be but became outdated after the war. Bonseki is said as one of the arts that creates miniature Mt. Fuji or Japanese nature on the tray. 京都の大雄寺さんで行われた、弦楽デュオと盆石実演のダイジェスト ヴァイオリン: 村瀬響さん チェロ: 一樂恒さん 盆石とは？ 歴史は大変古く推古天皇の時代に遣隋使によって中国から日本に伝えられた。当時はこの様な形式ではなく石を設えの中で愛でる文化が伝わったそうです。 黒い楕円の漆塗りの盆は「かつら盆」と言われております。 かつら盆と言うのは、平安時代の貴族は長い長い髪の毛をされていたので休む前に髪が乱れぬよう、盆に髪をおさめていた事が由来である。 もう一つ、枕石と言うのが有るが昔は夜になると明かりが殆ど無く、暗闇の中に魔物が現れないようにと魔除として枕元に石を置いていたと言われている。昔の貴族が盆と石を組み合わせて楽しまれていたと言われている。鎌倉時代(1192年〜)から室町時代(1467年)山水画が流行したため、石を山や滝に見立てたり、砂を波や川に見立てて盆の中で枯山水に見立てて楽しまれていたと言われている。もう一つ、日本には美しい庭園が沢山ありますが、庭園を作る前にお盆でシュミレーシされていたと言われています。その際に砂を整えるに当たり繊細な道具が発展してきました。大正〜昭和時代には花嫁修行の一つとして大変好まれたが、戦後衰退してしまった。 盆石は富士山だとか、日本の大自然をお盆の中で集約する借景芸術の一つと言われています。 #盆石 #大雄寺
