Protest close to Carlton House in Tangalle; large crowd scuffles with police Protest underway obstructing the Tangalle - Kataragama Main Road close to the Carlton House(PM private residence) A large crowd gathered at the road leading to Carlton House in Tangalle on Monday (4) morning to protest against the government. Carlton House is considered as the private residence of the Rajapaksa Family. The protestors were demanding the government resign and also against the mismanagement of the economy. Public protests continue including in front of MR’s house in Tangalle Several public protests are being carried out in most parts of the country against the government and the current economic crisis. Large number of people including professionals, artists and university students have joined the protest in major cities in the country. A protest is underway obstructing the Tangalle - Kataragama Main Road close to the Carlton House in Tangalle. This reminds the fall of strong man Ferdinand Marcos. It’s happening… Rajapakse rule is about to become an ugly patch of SL history What we need is a system change. That is what the people are asking for. 1. The party politics has to go. 2. Transparency, Accountability, Fiscal Responsibility, supervision of Govt matters has to come in. 3. The legal system is an absolute failure. Justice is for the people and the trur spirit of it has to come in. 4. Decency, Discipline, Rule of Law must come in. 5. Sri Lanka as a Nation must be known within the International community not as A rouge or a failed State but as a land of equal Opportunities. 6. The people are sub servient. Their has to be a major attitude Change. We must look for not who is right but what is right. For what is right you stand up. 7. Professionals who seek positions and personal glory must think of theor children. 8. Our Youth must be respected and consulted and their talents must be harnessed. They should not be treated like dirt or harrased. 9. We have to have a reloom at the educational system. Whole providing for what is necessary for the country we must look at the export market. 10. SL is a multi ethnic country. The multi ethnicity is a beautiful mechanism that we should work on to develop the Nation through the participation of all. We must reject any extremeist group whether they are Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim or otherwise. Buddhist monks and other religious leaders should use the religion to harness the unity between all and not ho on extreme political thinking. They should not play a role in politics. 11. All politicians of today are failure. The Govt is because of aggressive nature and lack of a vision. They have wrong people taking decisions. The Main opposition is a total failure. They want to ride to power on the feelings of the people. They too have no vision or direction. The people in power should consider an interim administration. Not the type of interim administration suggested by some who were part and parcel of this govt till a few weeks ago. They have no excuse. Develop Short term, Mid term Long term policies on Agriculture, Education, Tourism, Transport, Fisheries, Foreign Policy etc. None othe current people or the oppisition can do this as they dont simpky know. The dont have the knowledge or the brains. The professionals of this Nation who do not have any political ambitions such as the last time professionals are prepared to come forward. Give them an opportunity. Sit withem at a table where all are equal and listen to their views. You dont have to take all in. Take the worjable things. Get the SL Community living abroad involved. No Violence Please. Violence is the worst thing in a democracy. This has to be realized by any one advocating violence. The rulers must look at this objectively. Why are the people protesting ? Because they have nothing else to do ? No because they have nothing. No gas no petrol No Food No Diesel nothing at all. All those in power and those aspiring to come to power we reject you unhesitatntly. You bave failed this Nation and her people. But as a political process is involved at least now play your role. Otherwise we will be soon a colony of another Nation whether we like it or not. Because you all borrowed. Not us.
