Mars Wrigley has rolled out its fresh Europe-wide initiative for Snickers in anticipation of the upcoming Euro 2024, featuring football stars Bukayo Saka and Luka Modrić as the focal point. In the 20-second 'Own Goal' TV spot, a scene unfolds in a barbershop where a fervent fan springs from his seat in jubilation over a televised goal, only to receive a botched haircut. The barbershop's latest recruits, Modrić and Saka, then offer the fan a Snickers bar as a fix for his self-inflicted blunder, followed by the campaign tagline – ‘Own goal? Maybe you just need a Snickers‘ – gracing the screen. Additionally, both footballers will make appearances across out-of-home, digital, social media, PR, and in-store marketing across 46 markets in Europe and MEA, where they will assess fans' football-related mishaps on a scale of one to ten and encourage participation nationwide. Luka Modrić remarked, “I've had a great time collaborating with Snickers. It's been entertaining to rate some of the most humorous football errors – mistakes are part of the game, and everyone can score an own goal; sometimes, you just need assistance to bounce back.” Bukayo Saka chimed in, “We've all experienced embarrassing 'own goals' off the field, and football wouldn't be the same without our fans, but getting a haircut during your team's match is a solid 10 on the scale.” Own Goal extends from a prior campaign developed in partnership with the National Football League (NFL) called ‘Rookie Mistakes,’ tailored to resonate with football enthusiasts in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, in anticipation of the Euros this summer.
