*This is just a little clip from a live stream Facebook test I did back in the beginning of 2020, and then added in some random video footage and photos for fun* Context: Back in 2013 I was doing my first February Album Writing Month and decided to write the whole album using the concept of a pirate transmission from the future, 2020, from a post-apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo, where all freedoms have been suppressed, nature is only a vague memory, and people are all sick from the damage we've done. Sort of an "Akira in the Making" if you will. This song, Radioactive Sodapop, is one of the songs I made talks about getting high on radiation since everything else is illegal. Obviously a lot of these songs were satirical and intended to be a warning towards the path we were headed down. Fast forward to 2020, we're in the middle of a pandemic, and I'm doing live streams at home because gigs aren't a possibility anymore. I find myself scrolling through pictures in my phone and wondering, "Is there any going back after this? And to what?" If we ever needed a message that some aspects of our lives need to change, maybe this is it. I felt inspired to pick up this song and dust it off again. This is me performing it live in my studio from a live stream a few weeks back, paired with some random snippets of my life in Japan over the last couple years, recorded on my phone. On the original album, outer spacebots came to save us. Well now government officials are admitting UFOs are real, so maybe that part is coming. Stay positive. Stay present. We're all in this together, and that likely means tearing apart a lot of what we see as normal. Maybe we can't go back, but we can go forward and prioritize better. Lots of love from Tokyo.
