Im Herbst 2023 wurde ein massiver Schaden an der Tunneldecke des Schmittentunnels in Zell am See entdeckt, es herrschte Einsturzgefahr. Durch eine Notmaßnahme konnte der Tunnel über den Winter einspurige geöffnet werden, von 6. Mai bis 29. Juni 2024 wird er nun umfassend saniert, um die Sicherheit wieder herzustellen. Im Sommer soll die wichtige Verkehrsverbindung dann wieder zweispurig offen sein.
