Today I want to talk to you about a common Bossa Nova progression. It is commonly found in Latin Jazz standards. When you a playing a minor chord you can often vary it by adding these variations on the minor chord. We start with A minor, the secind chord is A min-maj 7. This chord is quite dissonant and would normally be used as a passing chord. then we play A minor 7 and then Aminor 6. You can vary these patterns rhythmically. For some suggestions you can refer to my post called 4 Bossa Nova Patterns. The thumb is playing on beats 1 and 3. You can also go back to the Amin-maj 7 which works quite well. Its a good idea to practice just the right hand with open strings, this will help you with managing the independence required between the thumb and fingers. A couple of examples where this progression occurs are Besame Mucho and Girl From Ipanema. I will be going into more detail in later lessons.
