The traditional introduction to a presentation is to explain who you are, what you do and why your audience should listen to you.  In reality, as a presenter, we lose interest in that type of introduction simply because it is not tapping into what is in it for them, the audience.  The interest level will rapidly decline before we are able to get our key points across.  On the other hand, if we tap into their wants immediately we keep their interest throughout the presentation.  Qualifying our credibility can take place throughout the talk or speech itself.
