No, that's not true: The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library does have a fire-suppression system designed to protect the precious books from fire -- but not at the expense of human lives. In 2010, the head of access services at the library, Stephen Jones, said that a combination of halon and Inergen gases could be pumped into the stacks to stop the combustion process, and thus stop the spread of fire.
