Lee Calladine's video: How to tame your fish and hand feed

@How to tame your fish and hand feed.
How to get your fish to feed from the hand. Hi its Lee from the japanese water gardens. Feeding your fish is one of the most enjoyable aspects of keeping fish. We all want our fish to be straight up to the surface eagerly feeding and showing us affection. Over the past few weeks several of the customers visiting the store have asked me "how can I get my fish to feed from the hand? Why don't my fish come up and be friendly like the fish here at the water gardens." So that's the topic for this weeks video how to tame your fish and get them to feed from the hand. Feed your fish as often as you can. Small amounts on a regular basis works best. Feed morning, afternoon and evening, every day. You want the fish to be constantly on the lookout for food. When you feed the fish don't feed too much too quickly. Feed mainly floating pellets or stix. Get down low, so as not to cast a large shadow over the pond. Spend several minutes with the fish if possible. Trickle in small quantities. Buy a bag of Koi treats. Hold them just at the surface between the finger and thumb. Let the fish suck on the treats don't make it easy for them. The longer the feeding experience takes the better. But don't over do the quantity. Consider installing a feeding ring. I did a video on how you make can make one for next to nothing out of a cycle inner tube. A feeding ring holds all the food in a confined area. The fish will start to gather under the ring once they realize nice things happen there. Lookout for a Chagoi. A friendly variety of Koi that have a reputation for growing large, possessing a ferocious appetite and encouraging other fish to come up and feed. Possibly not the most striking Koi but certainly one of the most sought after variety. It is worth pointing out that should your fishes behaviour suddenly change and they are slow to feed or not showing the usual enthusiasm for food then check everything is ok with the water and look for signs of a parasite infestation. My final suggestion and possibly the most important is to spend as much time as you can with your fish. If they are accustomed to people being around they will be calm and confident whilst people are around. Enjoy your fish.
