And that's when we knew our Ship of Fools had run aground, 'cos a voice came on the Alpine: "Boys, wherever you were bound, just forget this ever happened, and turn that van around, that you and your kin may yet increase." Well now, all of this bother seemed just a bit too weighty, so we headed on back to Interstate 80, but then we thought we'd go check out Little Charlie Baty and his Nightcats, playing down the road apiece. The sign said "Sold Out", and we were fighting to get in, 'cos Charlie was on stage, doing 'Begin The Beguine', but the grey little doorman slugged me one on the chin and cursed us out in plain Babylonese. By then it seemed time to give Squaw Valley the slip, because the way things were going we might never get hip. and we'd heard Papoose Lake was the hot inside tip, for the kind of place where wonders never cease.
