Langza to kaza | Winter Spiti Valley | Royal Enfield Himalayan | Leh Express Langza - Langza Village Attractions The Lang : There is an ancient temple known as Lang in the village from which “Langza” derives its name. This ancient Lang is believed to be the home of all the Dieties of Spiti Valley. The Giant Budha Statue: The Langza village also has a giant statue of Budha which according to local beliefs protects the village from all evil. This iconic Budha statue has become a famous landmark for Langza. Fossils: Langza village is famous for huge quantities of fossils found here. Because of this the village is also known as the “Fossil Village”. It is believed that Spiti was once submerged under the Tethys sea and this is the reason for the abundance of these marine fossils in Langza village. The locals call these fossils “Chaudua”. Also, there is a local fossil centre called the “Chauda Centre” where you can find a collection of fossils. Zama Pottery: The Zama pottery done in the village is a local speciality. Black soil collected from the valley is used to create various items by the villagers. Items made from Zama Pottery can be purchased from the villagers. It recommended to purchase local handmade items to support the local livelihood. This way you’ll also take a part of the Himalayas back home with you. Langza Village - Nearby Attractions There are two high altitude lakes situated near Langza village. One is Tsonyeti lake, which is situated at an height of 4526 metres. The other one is Chumo Tso lake which is a little bigger than Tsonyeti lake. The altitude of Chumo tso lake is 4619 metres above sea level. Both of these lakes are reachable after 2 – 4 hours walk depending on your experience. However it is recommended to take a local with you if going first time. How to Reach Langza village The only way to reach Langza village is by road. It is one of the highest villages connected by a motorable road. There are no flights to Langza nor any trains to Langza village. Via road the distance from Kaza to Langza is 16 kms approx. Alternatively, one can also trek to Langza from Kaza for which the distance would be around 8 Kms. kaza- The town of Kaza or Kaze is the subdivisional headquarters of the remote Spiti Valley in the western Himalayas in the Lahaul and Spiti district of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
