Rangdum | Heading to kargil | Suru valley | Royal Enfield Himalayan | Leh Express | Shinkula Pass Rangdum is in a valley situated 3,657 m (11,998 ft) above the sea level, in an isolated region of the Suru Valley in the union territory of Ladakh in Northern India. On one side are the colourful hills while on the other side are rocky mountains and glaciers, notably Drang-drung.Rangdum is located midway between Kargil and Padum. It is about 100 kilometres from Kargil. The road conditions are very bad near Rangdum. A JKTDC bungalow, restaurants and hotels are available here. There is no access to electricity, phone or internet. Kargil is a town in Kargil district and the joint capital of the Indian Union territory of Ladakh. Kargil is the second largest town in Ladakh after Leh.It is located 204 km to the east of Srinagar and 234 km west of Leh to the east. Kargil is the centre of the Suru River valley, historically known as Purig. The name Kargil is said to derive from the words Khar, meaning castle, and rKil meaning "centre". "Kargil denotes a place between many forts, a central place where people could stay". It appears to be a fitting description for a place that is equidistant from Srinagar, Leh and Skardu (the capitals of the Kashmir Valley, Ladakh and Baltistan respectively).Historically, the region around Kargil was called Purig. A major study of the history of Purig is included in the 1987 book Qadeem Ladakh by Kacho Sikander Khan, which includes genealogies of various dynasties that ruled the region. The Suru Valley is a valley in Kargil District in the Union Territory of Ladakh in India. It is drained by the Suru River, a powerful tributary of the Indus River. The valley's most significant town is Sankoo. Suru Valley is famous for its beauty. There are many picnic spots in Suru Valley such as Damsna, Parkachik, Sangra, Karpokhar, Khous, Thulus, Stakpa, Umba etc. Karpokhar Holy Shrine(Syed Mir Hashim), Khous Holy Shrine & Sanku Holy Shrine (Syed Haider ) are famous for prayer in Suru Valley. Horses, Yaks and other variety of animals can be found living in the valley. In winter Suru Valley experiences heavy snowfall and avalanches. The literacy rate of Suru Valley is very low as compared to other parts of Ladakh. Suru Valley is beautiful but still backward due to ignorance of govt & unavailability of infrastructure, power other things which supports for the development. Zanskar or Zahar (locally) or Zangskar is a subdistrict or tehsil of the Kargil district, which lies in the Indian union territory of Ladakh. The administrative centre is Padum. Zanskar, together with the neighbouring region of Ladakh, was briefly a part of the kingdom of Guge in Western Tibet. Zanskar lies 250 km south of Kargil town on NH301.The Zanskar Range is a mountain range in the union territory of Ladakh that separates Zanskar from Ladakh. Geologically, the Zanskar Range is part of the Tethys Himalaya, an approximately 100-km-wide synclinorium formed by strongly folded and imbricated, weakly metamorphosed sedimentary series. The average height of the Zanskar Range is about 6,000 m (19,700 ft). Shingo-la[1] (also known as Shinku La) is a mountain pass in India, on the border between Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. There is a shallow lake or pool 20m below the pass. The pass is on a long-distance footpath linking Zanskar[2] and Lahaul, used often by locals and trekkers alike. For trekkers it is one of the technically easiest 5000m passes in Indian Himalaya, involving no glacier trekking nor steep climbs. There is snow on the pass all year round, although in the summer only a small stretch of snow has to be passed. There is an official sign proclaiming height of the pass as 16,615.500 feet. The height indicated by various trekking website varies from 4900 to 5100 meters. This pass may be considered as an entry point to Lugnak Valley in Zanskar. The nearest inhabited village on Zanskar side is Kurgiakh and on the Lahaul side is Chikka. Both the villages generally involves two days trekking from the pass. The base camp for crossing the pass are set up at Ramjak or Chumik Nakpo from Darcha side and Lakong from Padum side.A rudimentary road to Shingo La was first constructed in 2016. The road was extended to Lakong above the Kurgiakh-Chu in 2017 and a very rough extension to the village of Kurgiakh was made by bulldozers and towed dump trucks in 2018. The Indian Government Boarder Roads Organization frequently claims that the road is motorable but as of the summers of 2018 and 2019 the road from Lakong to Kurgiakh is still routed within the waters of the Kurgiakh-Chu river and is impassible to all but tracked or large wheeled offroad construction vehicles. The winter of 2018/2019 did severe damage to both sides of the Shingo La road and in June 2019 it was described as being rebuilt. In September of the same year the first crossing by a private motor vehicle (an SUV) was reported. The drivers told the press:
