The song "Cocktails For Two" was featured in the 1934 movie "Murder at the Vanities" - a pre-code musical starring Carl Brisson, Kitty Carlisle and Gertrude Michael. While the movie received largely negative reviews, "Cocktails For Two" became very popular and is today a quintessential 1930s song. The video features two very different versions : an instrumental version recorded in Germany by the Robert Renard orchestra and a French version by the singer Jean Lumière. The Robert Renard orchestra was a studio band headed by Otto Dobrindt which not only made solo recordings but also accompanied popular singers under contract to the Lindström company. The video features images of Berlin by night which seem to suit the music well. He recorded many sides for Odeon and La Voix de son Maître. His most popular recording was "La Petite Église" for which he obtained the "Grand Prix du Disque" in 1934. In the 1960s he taught singing and mentored singers such as Mireille Mathieu and Cora Vaucaire. The video features pcitures of the ocean liner "Ile de France" - an elegant Art Deco liner which had a long and distinguished career.
