Lewis Merrin's video: Exploring an Massive Abandoned German Castle Hotel

The explore This was a unexpected explore while we was driving to a Nother location we spotted this very funny looking tower next to a building and we thought the building was in use until we saw some smashed windows with boards behind the windows and we thought we have a little look and we come across this huge abandoned castle with its own historic tower in the grounds of the enormous reservoir History ThTower stands on the western edge of the old castle complex The first tower (10th century) probably had a wooden superstructure. In the course of time it was further fortified and renewed in brick construction standing 30 meters tall. In the 15th century the tower was rebuilt and essentially got its current form with 105 steps to the top. The old entrance was bricked up and a level access was broken. In the 16th century it lost its importance as a defence and protection tower and now served as a front fort and prison. It bears its name from the red mud bricks from which it was built. The owners of Thr Castle, Count Solms Sonnenwalde, restored the tower after 1877 and expanded it as a lookout tower. Next door stands the former Castle. Only a few remnants of the wall suggest that a castle complex stood here around the 10th century. It lost its former military importance and gradually turned into a residential palace. The current palace building dates from the 18th century and was in the possession of the Count Solms until the land reform in 1945 and served as an old people's and nursing home until 1995. The expo exhibition "Win Land" had meanwhile revived the walls.
