Southport Marine Lake before sunset filmed with a DJI Mini 2 SE Southport Marine Lake is a man made lake just over one mile long and half a mile wide, it was created along with the beautiful Kings gardens in 1887. Adjacent to the beach, it sits alongside the Irish Sea. I'm still leaning to combine drone flying and videoing. I had checked the UAV Forecast app and it advised gusts of 21mph (9.4 metres per second). In normal mode the drone flies a 10.7 metres per second and 16 meters per second in sport mode. However, I flew a bit too high and the winds were stronger at altitude, the battery level indicator dropped rapidly. Realising I had better high tail it back to base, I pressed "RTH" on the controller, which due to the wind speed didn't work. It's quite easy to get disorientated when an alarm message sounds and pops up on the screen. However, as soon as I got the drone tail to the wind the battery indicator gave me plenty of minutes to get back to the landing pad. Although, for a couple of seconds I did think "Oh no!". I lost that video because when I landed I may not have stopped the video recording before turning off the app and shutting down the app. Subsequently, I realised that video file was corrupted. That's why you should use the checklist. When things start to go wrong using the checklist can save the day.
