Homeless Man's Chat With Officer Leads To No One Being Able To Recognize Him Bobby was used to getting harassed just for being homeless, so he probably didn't think that luck was on his side when he was stopped on the street by Officer Aaron Page. Although he wasn't a criminal or under arrest, the cop asked him to come into the police station the following day. For a reason that poor Bobby couldn't understand, he was now on the City of Rome Police Department's radar. Since he didn't want to get into trouble, Bobby did as he was told and showed up at police headquarters the next morning. However, it was clear from the get-go that their plan of attack regarding the homeless man had been coordinated ahead of time. A squad of specially trained officers were waiting to "ambush" Bobby, and he was stripped of his dirty clothes as soon as he arrived. But, before you think this is another horrible story of cops gone bad, just wait until you see what they did for Bobby! Like many who eek out a life on the streets, Bobby's only belongings consisted of the clothes on his back, and in his case, the bushy beard on his face! After Officer Page stopped to chat with him, Bobby revealed that he was having a hard time, and all he really wanted was to experience the simple pleasures in life - namely, a haircut, shave, and a shower! Officer Page knew that it was within his power to help, but since all the resources he needed were back at the station, he stalled for time and invited the homeless man to come visit him in the morning. When Bobby arrived he was surprised to see that the policeman and his cop pals were heavily armed - with hair clippers, new clothes, and big hearts of course! Sgt. Frank Fragapane, Jeff Buckley and George Gebo "swarmed" around the homeless man, and like a makeover SWAT team they got to work and started buzzing away. No celebrity stylists were consulted on this down-to-earth transformation - it was just a few humble cops who literally wanted to offer a helping hand to a deserving guy. The department's Facebook page noted: "We're always trying to come up with new ideas how to help and give back to our community. Officer Page spearheaded the idea on this one, and it was a great way to help someone who needed a hand." Bobby quickly went from looking scraggly and unkempt to feeling clean and refreshed. Before he left, the officers rounded up some donated shoes, clothes, and even a duffel bag for Bobby to carry his new belongings in. The stuff we take for granted are the things that homeless people dream about at night. With the help of the City of Rome Police Department in New York, Bobby's dreams not only came true, but he also walked away a new man. Even though they live in cruel and unfair world, it's not always easy for a homeless person to ask for, or even accept, help from police officers. But, this act of kindness is truly heartwarming and inspiring, and reminds us that good people still exist! Bless these angels in blue for taking the time out of their busy lives to change a man's life for the better. The police department's post has been shared more than 12,000 times.
