A walking tour of Mirik lake, I LOVE MIRIK logo and Devi Sthan mandir shot on a 360° camera. At a distance of 1 km from Mirik Bus Stop, Sumendu Lake is a long man-made lake situated at the heart of the quaint hill town of Mirik in West Bengal. Popularly called as Mirik Lake, it is one of the top places to visit in Mirik and is often used to promote Mirik Tourism. The Mirik Lake or Sumendu Lake is around 1.25 km long and is considered as Mirik's center of attraction. The lake is fed by rain water which remains full throughout the year. The depth of the lake varies from 3 feet to 25 feet. The western bank of the lake is surrounded by forest with tall pine trees having walking trails passing through it and the eastern bank of the lake has a nice garden where tourists and locals relax and enjoy the natural settings. The place where the present lake stands used to be a marshland having a very thick growth of plants. The garden area was once Polo ground which was used by the British. The lake has an arch footbridge called the Indreni Pull (Rainbow Bridge) and a 3.5-km-long road encircles the lake and is used for walks with the view of Kanchenjunga on the far horizon. The lake is not apt for swimming, but boating is a fun activity here. The view of the entirety of Mirik while boating in this lake is quite astounding. Tourists can also enjoy Horse riding around the lake. There are some shops and restaurants offering normal snacks, tea, coffee, cold drinks etc. The another attraction here is the temple of Singha Devi or Devi Sthan located on the western bank of the Lake and tourists have to take the bridge over the lake to reach the temple. About Mirik : Mirik is a small town and a Notified Area of Darjeeling district in the state of West Bengal, India. It is the headquarters of Mirik Subdivision. The name Mirik comes from the Lepcha words Mir-Yok meaning "place burnt by fire".Mirik has become a tourist destination for its climate, natural environment and easy accessibility. The centre of all attraction is Sumendu Lake, surrounded by a garden named Savitri Pushpa Udaya (after Savitri Thapa, a martyr soldier of INA) on one side and pine trees on the other, linked together by an arching footbridge called Indreni Pool (named after Indreni Thapa, a martyr soldier of INA).
