A visit to Kanchipuram during our day trip from Chennai. After visiting Rajiv Gandhi Memorial at Sriperumbudur, we went to Kanchipuram, a city well known for Temples in South India. The place Also known as Kanchi, and The City of Thousand Temples, has been a popular site for Pilgrimage for Hindus since the times of Vijaynagar Empire and The Chola Period. There are many Temples in Kanchipuram and We visited The Ekambareswarar / Ekambaranathar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was the time of Panguni Uthiram festival, one of the most important festivals of Tamil Hindus, and lots of people were present to witness the Panguni Uthiram festival as it was celebrated in the Ekambareshwar temple. We too witnessed the procession and ceremonies, but were delayed by the traffic jam caused by the procession. We ended our visit to the town by going to a Kanchipuram silk saree showroom.
