Princess street is an iconic locale in Fort Kochi, Kerala. It is extremely popular with tourists for its vibrancy and old world charm. So on our recent visit to Kerala, Limetrails set out on a Fort Kochi Tour. Tourists can visit Fort Kochi and experience Portuguese era at Princess Street, Burgher Street, Kashi Art Cafe. True to its fame, Fort Kochi was a stunner! Portuguese architecture is pre-dominant in this area with yellow and white buildings displaying European sensibilities. Actually no princess has ever lived in this street. Similarly other street names like Rose, Lily, Burgher, Elphinstone are mere allusions to the well-heeled European gentry that lived here in the past. Its popular hang-out joint, Loafer's Corner was named after the young men who stood around the corner to steal a glance at the elite Europeans. Though eroding, the area still retains its old world charm. The streets were lined with glitzy shops selling brass artifacts, colourful trinkets, fashion wear and jewellery. There are a number of interesting art cafes scattered around the street. We spent an en entire day walking around and exploring the intriguing Princess street and Burgher street. The famous Kashi art cafe lived up to it's name and the food was unique and delightful. This vibrant street is also the hangout for social party loving locals of the area. It is the perfect amalgamation of the colonial era and the new age. So do watch the video to experience the vibrancy of the beautiful streets in Fort Kochi.
