Born after a set of three cubs to the dominant female of the River Pride, he's the lone survivor from the litter, making his presence even more special. When I first spotted the lioness with just one cub, my concern grew, considering there were four cubs the day before. I was incredibly fortunate to have this sighting all to myself, allowing me to observe and document the little one's every move. Patience played a key role as any sudden sound or movement would send him darting into the bush, taking half an hour to regain confidence. Parked at a distance, I deemed ethical and non-invasive; I had a three-hour rendezvous with this curious cub. We shared a mutual intrigue, with him analyzing his surroundings, especially my presence. Feeding, playing, and repeating, he gained confidence by the minute. These moments are integral for habituation, fostering an understanding that we, as spectators, pose no threat.
