Peepul Tree World (Live History India)'s video: Ancient Chaupar to Modern Ludo

@Ancient Chaupar to Modern Ludo
Ludo, a widely-played board game, traces its origins to Chaupar, an ancient Indian game mentioned in the Mahabharata, where Yudhishthira loses to the Kauravas. The earliest visual representation is found in the Ellora Caves (6th - 8th century CE), depicting Shiva and Parvati playing the game. Chaupar, meaning 'four-board,' was favoured by royals, while the common version, 'Pachisi,' involved cowries instead of dice for the common people. During Akbar's reign, the Mughal emperor turned a courtyard in Fatehpur Sikri into a life-sized Chaupar board. The game made its way to Europe and America in the 19th century, patented as Ludo in England in 1896, and was reintroduced to India in the 1950s, completing a full circle. =============== Join us at https://www.peepultree.world/livehistoryindia to rediscover stories that are deeply rooted in our history and culture.
