Peepul Tree World (Live History India)'s video: India Southeast Asia: Thibaw Palace - King of Burma s Last Abode

Nestled in the scenic town of Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, is a grand mansion, which was the final residence of the last monarch of Burma, King Thibaw. Thibaw Palace, as it became known, was built in 1910 by the British to keep King Thibaw under house arrest, who had been exiled to far-off Ratnagiri from his homeland after losing the 3rd Anglo-Burmese war against the British in 1885. The three-storied palace is built in laterite and lava rock, which gives it a distinct red colour and its architecture reflects elements of Burmese and colonial styles, with a liberal use of Burma Teakwood. After a difficult life in exile, King Thibaw died in 1916 and the surviving Royal Family was relocated back to Burma in 1919.
