New Coach composition Plan | Railway a SERVICE SECTOR or Business racket Press release dated 11th July 2022 Express News Service | Just a few months after converting passenger and local trains into 'express' ones and withdrawing fare concessions for senior citizens, the railways has dropped another master plan, ordering for the change in rake composition of trains to be standardised. With this into effect each train will have only two sleeper coaches. Trains with LHB rakes existing composition is as follows 7 Sleeper coaches. 6 AC three tier coaches. 2 AC two tier coaches. 4 Unreserved coaches. Revised composition would be 2 Sleeper coaches. 10 AC three tier coaches. 4 AC two tier coaches. 1 AC first class coach. 3 Unreserved coaches. Composition of existing trains varies depending on the demand and decision of the Zonal railways. As per press release, these steps ar being taken to make train travel an elite service like Airways. Each LHB sleeper coach has 78 berths. Once the composition changes, the number of sleeper berths per train will drop to 156 from the present number of 546 to 780. A top official from the transportation branch (coaching) of the Southern Railway mentioned that no train has been identified for revising the composition yet. It is learnt that the trains proposed to be operated at 130 kmph on select routes may get the revised composition in a few months. This is an ill-conceived idea towards transforming the railways into a commercial organisation from a service sector. The New Coach Composition if implemented will be a stab in the back of a Common Man.
