We know very little about dark matter and dark energy - hence the word ‘dark’ being used to describe both. Dark matter is a form of matter that does not interact with light and so it is invisible to us. This video explains how we know it’s there and what we think makes up dark matter. Dark energy was discovered after experimental evidence showed that the expansion of the Universe was accelerating, rather than decelerating. What was causing this acceleration was dubbed dark energy.
