@Zena Edwards: 'Long Live' (a poem for Southbank) ~ extended film ft Tawiah & Zena in discussion
Update: Long Live Southbank have come a long way since this video was first published. Having secured the long term future of the Undercroft and we have gained planning permission to restore legendary parts of the space last skated in 2004. To make this restoration into a reality, you can donate at www.llsbdonate.com. This film features the thought-provoking 'Long Live' poem by Zena Edwards followed by a discussion with Zena and musician Tawiah. Spoken word artist Zena Edwards contributes a specially written poem for Long Live Southbank which explores the cultural and social importance of Southbank (Undercroft), the community that inhabit the space, and its impact on the people and society that surround it. The film explores the perspectives of both the observers and the users and the many unseen instances when they momentarily cross paths in one of the worlds most unique free spaces of artistic expression and culture. It also provides a glimpse into one of the many conversations being had across the arts and wider community which firmly understands and supports the campaign for preservation. Zena and Tawiah discuss some of the important issues surrounding the potential destruction of one of the most renowned and diverse art spaces created by people, without institution. LLSB is committed to providing a platform for the conversation on art and culture over consumerism and commerce and free cultural expression over institutionalised cultural containment.
