We’re taking the trips on our own that our kids didn’t want to even hear about when they were teens. (Español abajo) We actually almost did this trip with the two youngest before the pandemic but we realized we’d be spending money on something that may not be that enjoyable w them b*tching about everything - so we saved our energy and our money and here we are, enjoying our empty nesters travels. At 60 I’m so aware that I need to take advantage of my mobility and stamina. You just never know what’s around the corner. Valladolid, Yucatan is such a cute small town. It’s safe and pretty and walkable (if you don’t mind narrow sidewalks and finding the shade). Not many tourists. Not many people! There is a cenote right inside the town which you can walk to. I like that Yucatan is a short flight from Miami, on the same time zone, it’s the safest area in Mexico, and I personally love the hot weather. Prices are great for us. Plus we speak Spanish so it makes us feel at home. Have you been to Valladolid, Yucatan? Estamos haciendo los viajes por nuestra cuenta que a nuestros hijos ni siquiera les interesaban cuando eran adolescentes. Casi hicimos este viaje con los dos más jóvenes antes de la pandemia, pero nos dimos cuenta de que estaríamos gastando dinero en algo que tal vez no sería tan agradable con ellos quejándose de todo, así que guardamos nuestra energía y nuestro dinero, y aquí estamos, disfrutando de nuestros viajes solos. A los 60, soy muy consciente de que debo aprovechar mi movilidad y resistencia. Nunca se sabe lo que depara el futuro. Valladolid, Yucatán, es un pueblo pequeño y encantador. Es seguro, bonito y accesible a pie (si no te importan las aceras estrechas y tener que encontrar sombra). No hay muchos turistas. ¡Ni mucha gente! Hay un cenote justo dentro del pueblo al que se puede llegar caminando, @cenotezaci. Me gusta que Yucatán esté a un corto vuelo desde Miami, en el mismo huso horario, sea la zona más segura de México y personalmente me encante el clima cálido. Los precios nos resultan geniales. Además, hablamos español, lo que nos hace sentir como en casa. ¿Has estado en Valladolid, Yucatán?
