Ludwig van Larx's video: Original Composition: Ballade for the Lost

Before I talk about the piece, I want to mention the gorgeous artwork featured in the video, which was also the source of inspiration for this piece! It was drawn by the great artist Yuumei! I finished it quite some time ago, and it was also inspired by the artwork featured in the video. Also, despite it briefness, I actually spent quite a bit of time tweaking a bunch of different things throughout the piece to get it to where it is right now. Firstly, I tried sequencing most of this piece and realized that it just wasn't going to work out. It felt very robotic, so majority—if not all of it—was played in by me. Then I got to the problem of velocities... which there were a ton of to tweak, lol. I got it to be mostly the way I heard it in my head, but would have been better had I recorded it on an actual piano. I noticed that with this specific piano library I have, it acts almost as a fortepiano... where the louder you play, the tone of the instrument actually starts to change (the sound becomes more harsh, which isn't bad at all and for most of my music, prefer it that way). However, I very specifically wanted a soft tone to the piece, almost as if one were playing pianissimo on a Steinway. I tried... and it pretty much worked, lol. Not much else to say but that I hope you guys enjoy this one... even though it's on the shorter side.
