This complex medieval work in the form of an isorhythmic motet celebrates the life of Ciconia’s patron Francesco Zabarella. Performed live in concert, 2020 Adelaide Fringe Festival 'A Medieval and Renaissance Showcase' St Oswald’s Church, Parkside, South Australia. Amen. Voice 2: Melodia suavissima cantemus tangat voces melliflue sidera, concordie carmen liram sonemus resonet per chorus pulsa cithara. Translation - Voice 1: The foremost of teachers is summoned above the ether by the worthy achievements of his virtues. Therefore let attention be given to the living voice, let our fervor bring forth our minds’ inner stirrings. Francesco Zabarella, the glory, teacher, honor, and light of the Paduans; live happy from so great a victory; through you the fame of the Paduans flourishes. Francesco Zabarella, you have prepared grazing for the shepherds of the flocks, whereon the sheep may graze; the grateful generations echo your name as a reward for you labors. Amen. Voice 2: Let us sing in the sweetest melody, let our honeyed voices touch the stars, let us play our song concordantly on the lyre, let the cithara be struck and sound through our choirs. Francesco Zabarella, the protector or rather the true father of the State, the creator of the world summons those to him who have pity on fickle fortune. Francesco Zabarella, you investigate the causes of all creatures; posterity will celebrate your skills for all time, world without end. Amen.
