Lux Life London's video: Tracing my Bank Robber Ancestors in Boise Idaho Finding a Letter Signed by Hoover - Genealogy Vlog

TRIGGER WARNING: Suicide and SA. A bit of a different vlog from me today - I went to Boise Idaho to visit the graves of my Grandad's cousins, and to see where two of them were incarcerated in the Old Idaho State Penitentiary. Arthur & Walter Mitchell were caught robbing the Middleton State Bank at gunpoint in the 1920s, and after going on the run, were caught and jailed. They then escaped the canyon county jail by sawing through the steel roof, and were then re-caught and put in the Old Idaho State Pen. The boys were only 16 and 19, but Arthur sadly died a year into his incarceration, while Walter served 5-6 years. I had a private tour of the prison, and went to the State Archives and found the craziest records...including a bunch of letters fro the FBI about the brothers, one of which was signed by J. Edgar Hoover himself!!! Holding that letter in my hands was so surreal. Their sister Vivian sadly chose to end her life in Twin Falls three weeks after getting married, so I also wanted to visit her grave and the place she ended her life.
