HOW IT ALL HAPPENED Simply Three exists in this incredible world of combining serious classical training with pop music. After seeing them perform, Kayson Brown quickly booked them to take up residency at the Lyceum Music Festival 2016. The theme for the LMF repertory this year is Rome & Juliet including works by Tchaikovsky, Bernstein, and of course Prokofiev. It just made sense to make this video about the “two households in ancient grudge match” – Classical vs. Pop. Of course the end result is some crazy classical crossover that hopefully draws new interest into the amazing work of Prokofiev and the endless possibilities of classical instruments. The nearly 100 high school students who make up the American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic recorded the audio during a 2 hour rehearsal in Utah. Simply Three did their magic recording their solos back in Arizona. We actually only had one day to do all the filming. It was recorded in 6K by the amazing Mark Andersen at Kayson Brown’s old haunts – The Pie Pizzeria (where the music majors eat at the U of U) and of course the stunning Libby Gardner Concert Hall. AUDIO CREDITS “With or Without You” written by Bono, Adam Clayton, The Edge, Larry Mullen, Jr. “Montagues and Capulets” from Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev Arranged by Kayson Brown and performed by Simply Three (Nicholas Villalobos, Zack Clark, and Glen McDaniel) and American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic.
