Plans to make a second video for my song 'Toes' had fallen apart after I'd put so much into them. After I'd promised my dad I was going to make some progress in my life. My dad was in hospital, having a stent procedure to help clear his liver as cancer was blocking it. This video was filmed on Valentines day in Victoria Park, London. I needed to get away from everything so Abu and I came here. Besides, I always feel better for watching Abu watch dogs. He never fails to light up when he spots one. Each time it's like he's never seen another dog before. Each time it's the most exciting thing that's ever happened to him. You can see what I'm talking about in the video. I'd handpicked some flowers from a local florists before Abu and I sat down on this bench. It was the only time I've ever picked my own bunch of flowers. The florists had these stunningly beautiful flowers. So many of them appeared wild. I loved the thistles especially. I loved the purples and the coarseness and the lavender. The florists had been full of guys buying flowers for their partners. I was buying flowers to give to my dad when he got out of hospital. Abu and I sat on this bench in the golden afternoon. As has been the case, during many times of my depression, there didn't seem to be a future ahead. So Abu and I made the most of the afternoon instead. I appreciated having this little soul in my life. So of course I went and made another song about him.
