I had always wanted to build my own 3D Printed Nerf Gun. I found some heave springs and when my 3D printer arrived it was finally time to start this project. And yes it is pretty powerful and it hurts like hell when you get hit by this one XD. I tried to build this 3D Printed Nerf Gun 100% 3D printed. But unfortunately this didn’t work. The surface of a 3d printed parts where not smooth enough to get an airtight seal. So in the end I used my lathe for the internal parts. When the CAD design of the 3D Printed Nerf Gun was finished I started with test printing al the mechanical parts in test prints. I took several test prints to get the trigger mechanism working. The parts on the lathe where pretty straight forward. It was important that al the dimensions where on point to get an airtight seal between the piston and the cylinder. Luckily I got it done perfectly on the first try. Al the individual parts where ready so it was time to assembly 3D Printed Nerf Gun. Everything fitted together really well. The heavy spring is almost to strong for the Nerf Gun. I had to make another handle on the piston rod because putting the spring under tension with two fingers wasn’t that comfortable. I focused mostly on the engineering parts of this 3D Printed Nerf Gun build. The design and aesthetics came second. That is clearly visible by the blocky design. Adding rounded or chamfered edges resulted in build plate adhesion problems. I chose to go for the les pretty, but more function design for this time. The project turned out really well. The 3D Printed Nerf Gun is powerful to break a whine glass. I would like to build a version 2 someday. Heavier springs and better aesthetics would will be the focus on that build.
