In 2-stroke engines, there is more wear and tear of moving engine parts which requires a large amount of lubrication. Further in 4-stroke there is a separate oil sump i.e. crankcase where the oil is stored and by the movement of piston the oil splashes and provides the lubrication whereas in 2-stroke the crankcase is meant for the compression so fuel and oil both are compressed and during exhaust, oil is also removed from the cylinder with the hot gases (burnt fuel). Thus lubrication is required for the engine. So oil is added with petrol to provide the lubrication.
