The Panamanian runner is currently 104th in the world but was let down by her tired legs on the big stage, although she is probably glad to have left the incident unscathed. All three of the heats were incredibly close, but there were no other shocks as the fancied runners all made it through. Tunisia’s Habiba Ghribi won her heat in 9:24.38, the second fastest was German Gesa Felicitas Krause in 9:24.92 and Ethiopia’s Hiwot Ayalew was third fastest in 9:25.55.
