Frank Elaridi and Bryant Wood took their family to Rythmia Life Advancement Center in Costa Rica to explore family and ancestral healing. According to Dr. Jeff McNairy, the Chief Medical Officer at Rythmia, “When somebody goes through a Traumatic experience in their life, the emotions that are present during trauma get in the way of their survival. So if I am being abused as a kid I have fear, anger, chaos, confusion, guilt, shame, all those emotions. Those get in the way if I’m trying to behaviorally survive, so those emotions get pushed into the amygdala part of the brain, that’s what stores our subconscious process. I go about my life and they’re stuck there in my amygdala. Affect my life without me knowing why. So I might not trust people, engage in relationships that are meaningful, might have a standoff vibe with people, alone and isolated. So then I do plan medicine, my amygdala opens up and here comes all these emotions flooding out and they connect with a part of the brain called the prefrontal cortex, rational, and those two parts of the brain link up and process those emotions out. That’s why you see people laughing, crying, screaming, all kinds of emotions right? It’s the amygdala releasing, so it’s very therapeutic, it’s amazing what’s happening.” John Jacob Mubarak, Assistant Director at Rythmia says that the medicine is specifically designed just for each individual. “It doesn’t matter so much what you’re seeing but rather what you’re feeling. Because the feeling that it’s causing in you is kind of clicking these tumblers in your mind if I give you clarity about an issue. So sometimes on the medicine you see something that you’re like I didn’t know that happened to me, and it was real. A lot of times people see something very Traumatic and they say that didn’t happen, I know that didn’t happen, what does it mean? It’s not important what the content is, because the medicine is reflecting back to you what it’s making you feel gives you the answer that you’re looking for. It’s like clearing out the grease for clarity.”
