Welcome and today’s video is about Dog Day Afternoon Review by MR BOX and BOOGY. Dog Day Afternoon is a 1975 American biographical crime drama film directed by Sidney Lumet, written by Frank Pierson, and produced by Martin Bregman and Martin Elfand. Starring Al Pacino, John Cazale, James Broderick, and Charles Durning, it chronicles the events following a bank robbery. Dog Day Afternoon is an outstanding film. Based on 1972 Life magazine article, The Boys in the Bank by P. F. Kluge. Dog Day Afternoon is largely a adaptation of the 1972 bank robbery mastermind by John Wojtowicz. The robbery was allegedly done for the purpose of financing a sex change operation for the male lover of one of the robbers. That incident is retained in the script, but it is just one of many key elements in a hilarious and moving story. Pacino and laconic sidekick John Cazale take over the neighborhood bank branch managed by Sully Boyar. The introduction of Pacino’s lover Chris Sarandon is cleverly plotted, and comes as a surprise since Pacino’s straight wife Susan Peretz has already appeared. The interactions between Pacino and other key characters are magnificently written, acted and directed. Pacino went through many efforts to make the part work including not sleeping for days on end to look genuinely fatigued and even ad-libbing the famous scene rousing the crowd to shout out Attica. The entire cast is excellent, top to bottom. Dog Day Afternoon is, in the whole as well as the parts, film-making at its best. It has rightly retained its cult classic status where it should remain.
