MSK Chess's video: Analysing the chess position - Static elements

@Analysing the chess position - Static elements
The video is first in a series looking at how to analyze a chess position using the strategic and tactical elements inherent within the position. Specifically every chess position has two elements, a strategic element and a tactical element and the chess player analyses these elements and makes an informed decision on their basis seeking out the most prominent element in the position around which he forms his plans and ideas. The strategic element itself can be divided into two main areas, a static element which includes things like open files, passed pawns, isolated pawns, backward pawns etc and a dynamic element which includes things like fighting for the initiative, control of the center, reducing the mobility of our opponent's pieces etc Sometimes if there are no clear static positional elements in the position the chess player can impose them by force if they are advantageous to him. Using the static elements is just one way of gather information about a position and it may not necessarily be the most prominent feature but it pays to to consider it when forming plans and ideas and the hope is that it will providea basis for any player to utilize the same techniques in their own games of chess.
