MSK Chess's video: Test your positional play 1

@Test your positional play 1
There are essentially two elements in every chess position, a tactical element and a strategic element. These elements are not independent of each other but have a symbiotic relationship. Sometimes tactics i used to gain a positional advantage and sometimes from a positionally superior game tactics can flow. The challenge for the chess player is to attempt to utilise the elements on the chessboard whether tactical or strategic to form an idea and then to subject that idea to falsification in order to verify its veracity or otherwise as the case may be. The first stage is the analysis of the position according to strategic and tactical elements. Sometimes its a static strategic element like a backward pawn or simply the possession of an open file, sometimes its a dynamic strategic element like fight for the initiative or development, sometimes its purely tactical. The important thing is to attempt to define the most import element in the position and to form your idea around it. This stage is not always easy and it takes much practice and experience to recognise the salient points in the chess position. It is the hope that this little video series will help in highlighting some of the ways in which a plan is not only formulated but subject to test in order to find out whether it is plausible or not. Generally three scenarios will be given and the viewer will be asked to pause the video and try to ascertain which one is the most applicable according to the demands of the position. Best of Luck. My thanks go to the authors of the book 'Test your positional play', from which the game was taken. To the artists who made the original video animation which I have used to liven up what can be an otherwise dry subject. To Riccardo De Amicis who provided the encouragement. To the musicians for the audio and for the open source software community for their untiring devotion to making quality software available to everyone regardless of economic constraints. You are all truly awesome people. I provide the links for the original material below should anyone wish to view the original animation and music - kind regards MSK Chess original video : https://vimeo.com/77723048 original soundtrack : https://soundcloud.com/marvenmix/venus-shocking-blue https://www.facebook.com/msk.chess http://www.chess.com/blog/robbie_1969... chess, echecs , ajedrez , xadrez , shahmati , szachy , sjakk , schach , schaken , satranj , шахматы , شطرنج
