Start the Trip
A little bit of a sneak peek, coming into Komodo Island is not as easy as flipping the hands of a baby. To reach this beautiful island, you have to fly to Labuan Bajo, a fishing town located at the western end of Flores Island. From Komodo International Airport, you can take a taxi or request a pick-up service from your accommodation.
Accommodation
We have 2 recommendations for your stay during your trip:
- Seaesta (12$ - 50$ per night) which you can contact via their website www.seaestakomodo.com
- The Teuz B&B (12$ - 15$ per night).
Transportation
If you wish to go around the area, you can rent a motorbike or a car, depending on your budget or the size of your group. Our personal recommendation is www.rentalbajo.com, which will cost you 5$ per day for a motorbike or 15$ a day for a car. So far, they give the best price and fast services - they can even deliver and pick up the vehicle from/to the airport.
Food
Not to let you go around like crazy to find good food, we present to you:
- Brothers Warung serves amazing food from Flores Island, and you can enjoy live music on some days
- Sei Babi Bola-Bale, located 500 meters from the airport, would be a good option for a bite after you arrive
- Wisata Kuliner Kampung, the local market for seafood
You can avoid Made in Italy, an overpriced restaurant with poor food quality and bad service. Highly NOT recommended.
Boat Trip to Komodo
Now, going to Komodo Island, you will need to rent a boat, which is not an easy deal. Among hundreds of agencies, offering various prices and asking for different commissions, we would recommend:
- Nardin @carnaby.indonesia +62 812 4660 4497
- Mbak Darli +62 812 4653 7209
Prepare 120$ - 500$ for the 3 days 4 nights boat tour. The good thing is that food is already included in that price, but it's not the case with the diving (60$ - 120$ extra) and the entry fee to the park (35$ - 50$ per pax). Be ready to dig deeper into your pocket during peak season because the price might go up to 3 times the normal price. There is another option for the bigger boat that you can watch in the video.
Drone Tips
If you plan to fly your drone in Komodo National Park, DON'T. All drones have to be registered at the entry and you have to pay 100$ to get the "license" to operate the drone.
To avoid any argument with the local ranger or officers, fly your drone at the far end of the park where no one is around, or fly it from the boat you are staying at.
Visit Other Spots
While you are in the area, we recommend you visit other locations:
- Kanawa Island
- The beaches
- Bukit Amelia Sea
- Wae Kelambu (a new port)
- Rangko Cave
- Cunca Rami and Cunca Wulang Waterfall
- Melo Village
We made our way from Larantuka to Labuan Bajo, yet we are still craving for more to see and explore. Would you go through our journey with us?
