Maine Railfan's video: 4K The Last Trains On The Canadian Pacific Rockland Subdivision Part 1 7 24 2021

@[4K] The Last Trains On The Canadian Pacific Rockland Subdivision Part 1 (7/24/2021)
After the takeover of the Central Maine and Quebec in 2020, new owner CP had no interest in the branch lines owned by CMQ. Specifically the isolated Rockland Subdivision/Branch owned by the Maine DOT. In 2015 CMQ entered a ten year lease, which was transferred to CP in 2020 as part of the sale. At the time the line only saw occasional outbound loads of cement and a few inbound loads of Perlite. The main business at the time was the cement shuttle from Thomaston-Rockland. At the time of filming rumblings began to spread in the railfan community that FGLK would be establishing a new operation in Maine to fulfill the remainder of the lease. So on 7/24/2021, I set out for Rockland. In the process I caught Pan Am Railways train WANM-24 with my late friend David Bernier in the conductors seat. I would then meet up with railfans David Kruschwitz and Dan Nelson and would chase west to Brunswick including a situation at Wiscasset where a truck almost got hit by the train. At Brunswick the cars would be dropped for Pan Am and CP would head light back to Rockland (The outbound cars were supposed to go earlier in the week but didn't due to a billing error). At Thomaston, CP would grab a load of perlite for Dicaperl. I forgot to add this in the video, but the 2279 would be wrecked with two other ECO's in a washout/derailment in Orenville Township, ME on the CP Bangor Sub in October 2022. All three units sustained heavy damage and have been recently moved to CP shops for evaluation. 2279 also adorns the name "B.C. O'Brien" who if I remember correctly was a long time D&H dispatcher who passed away, so crews renamed the unit after him. Stay tuned for a part two to this video in the near future.
