ManWithNoExpression's video: The Hollies - You Must Believe Me Curtis Mayfield - Guitar Cover

@The Hollies - You Must Believe Me (Curtis Mayfield) - Guitar Cover
This is the second track off of the Hollies’ third album, The Hollies, recorded on 30 June 1965, and released on 1 September 1965. The song was originally featured as the last track on the fourth album by the Impressions, People Get Ready, written by Curtis Mayfield. The Hollies generally had an influence of soul music made present on their albums. Songs like “Nitty Gritty/Something’s Got A Hold On Me”, by Etta James, “I Take What I Want” and “You Don’t Know Like I Know” (performed live) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzzIe56K7sU by Sam & Dave, and “Reach Out, I’ll Be There” (performed live) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh3jO3_k9Go by the Four Tops. I assume Tony plays his Gibson ES-345 on this song. There are a few fascinating things about the chords. Most of the song is just alternating between an A and a Dsus4, and you rarely see a suspended chord used without its basic major chord in conjunction with it (at least in early 60s Pop). (For example: David Crosby’s main riff of I’ll Feel A Whole Lot Better, A – Asus2 – A – Asus4 – A – Asus2 – A) Additionally, the intro was a bit confusing because Tony starts off with an Am, which never reappears for the rest of the song, as the song is A major. I’m using a 1967 Gretsch 6120 in the middle position, which is panned some to the left, with the song panned some to the right. The current request list is as follows: The Beatles - She Said She Said The Hollies – I Can’t Let Go The Beatles – A Hard Day’s Night The Zombies – She Does Everything For Me The Zombies – You Make Me Feel Good The Beatles – What You’re Doing The Rolling Stones - The Last Time The Hollies - King Midas In Reverse The Beatles - The Night Before The Beatles – Thank You Girl The Beatles - I'll Follow The Sun The Beatles – Taxman The Hollies – I Take What I Want Feel free to comment your song requests, and ask any questions you have about chords or notes. Thanks for watching!
