Presented by Geoff Kaine Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research The aerial application of 1080 has been, and continues to be, a critical tool in controlling possums to eliminate Tb and for controlling a range of pest species to protect native biodiversity. The aerial application of 1080 is controversial with strong opposition to its use from some groups in society. In partnership with OSPRI and DOC we conducted a large-scale survey of New Zealanders to gather data on peoples’ beliefs about possum control and the aerial application of 1080. We also gathered data on their attitudes towards using 1080, what concerned them about its use, and the strength of those concerns.
