@LINKOnline Webinar: Well being Indicators for New Zealand’s People and Nature
Well-being has a unique and important place in decision-making in Aotearoa New Zealand. It is the basis for decisions on investment and used to evaluate government progress towards goals. The relationship between people and nature is fundamental to our well-being; nature delivers food, energy, health, recreation and more. How can we better recognise nature and its underpinning value to our wellbeing?’ In a new project supported through the Office of the Prime Minister’s Chief Science Advisor, Manaaki Whenua and the Ministry for the Environment have started to develop and test a structured, systematic, transparent, and repeatable approach to represent the link between nature and people. In this webinar we will describe international initiatives that have helped formalise the connections between people and nature, and how these concepts could be used in New Zealand’s State of the Environment reporting and the Living Standards Framework. Finally we will describe a proposed co-development process to design indicators which will incorporate the latest science and evidence and help us to monitor our environment and its impact on our lives.
