Kidapawan vies to break Guinness largest cha-cha dance show record KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Over 14,000 people showed up on the streets here Tuesday to partake in the city’s attempt to grab the title as having the largest number of cha-cha dancers on the Guinness Book of World Record in a single event. Joey Recimilla, city tourism officer, said the activity was one of the most anticipated event as the city culminates its week-long celebration of the Timpupo fruit festival. With a recorded 14, 178 participants, a siren marked the synchronized five–minute dance show around 9:00 a.m. here as witnessed by three Guinness representatives. The cha-cha music was played simultaneously over FM and AM stations here of the Notre Dame Broadcasting Corporation. North Cotabato Governor Emmylou Mendoza and City Mayor Joseph Evangelista participated in the event together with members of the academe, non-government organizations, women’s league, national government-lined agencies and local government employees. The London-based Guinness Book of World Record sent three Filipino representatives namely Julie Plummer, Lowell Tan, both from Manila; and Crisando Rendon of Cebu, to witness the event. “We will immediately send all videos, photos and documents to the Guinness headquarters for verification and formal declaration,” Recimilla said. Evangelista described the event as a demonstration of unity and restoration of the city’s valued reputation after the bloody April 1, 2016 dispersal here of some 6,000 farmers at the height of the onslaught of the El Nino extreme weather phenomenon. The Edgefield Primary School in Punggol, Singapore, currently holds the official world record of the largest cha-cha dance spectacle set on July 17, 2011 with 3,379 participants. (c) Kidapawan City
