Dr Justice S. Muralidhar sometimes known as India's Lincoln Lawyer, is one of the most respected judges in recent times. A true legal luminary, whose impressive career spanned over 3 decades. He qualified for the Advocate-on-Record Examination in 1990 securing the first position in merit. He was also active as a lawyer for the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee. His pro bono work included the cases for the victims of the Bhopal Gas Disaster, cases involving the deplorable conditions in which persons alleged to be mentally ill were locked up in Jail and cases involving those displaced by the dams on the Narmada. He was appointed amicus curiae by the Supreme Court in several Public Interest Litigation cases and in cases involving convicts on death row. Muralidhar was also counsel for the National Human Rights Commission and the Election Commission of India. Justice Muralidhar was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Delhi in 2006 and retired as the 32nd Chief Justice of Orissa High Court in 2023. As a judge he shared his views on judges and the act of judging, also venturing to state that judges could be fallible.
